Restoring Hope in Displaced Communities: The Resettlement of Barwaaqo Village
Last Updated : March 3, 2025
For years, hundreds of families in Barwaaqo village lived in makeshift shelters after being displaced by conflict and drought. They lacked access to clean water, healthcare, and basic services, making everyday survival a challenge.
Recognizing their plight, PASOS launched a community resettlement program that focused on improving infrastructure and restoring dignity to the displaced families. The organization built permanent homes, installed a clean water supply system, and established a small health clinic to provide basic medical care.
The transformation was life-changing. Families who once relied on food aid started farming their own land with the support of PASOS’ agricultural training. Children who had dropped out of school were enrolled in a newly built learning center. The sense of hopelessness that had gripped the community was replaced with optimism and self-reliance.
Today, Barwaaqo village stands as a testament to PASOS’ commitment to long-term recovery and development, ensuring that displaced families do not just survive but thrive.
