INTRODUCTION:

PASOS is an organization driven by its mission to overcome poverty and social injustice and works with vulnerable communities to address the underlying causes of poverty and promote peace and development through its strategic goal to reduce poverty by empowering women, enhancing access to resources and services, and improving governance. The position holder will work closely with the program leads and MEAL unit. The position is 100% field-based with the workstation being in Baidoa, and you will frequently travel to the areas to provide program support. This assignment will be for a period of six (6) months with a possible extension subject to the availability of funds and satisfactory performance.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the advocacy and program director and deputy executive director, the senior communication officer will work closely with project teams to assist, build, and support program communication needs. The incumbent will be responsible for enhancing program visibility among its donor, beneficiaries, partners, and the public by producing quality learning materials and content. The key qualifications for the position holder include prior experience working in a humanitarian organization and multimedia skills, i.e., video filming and editing, graphic design, photography, storytelling, and event management.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Communication

  • Collaborates with PASOS team members around Burhakaba, Baidoa, Dinsor, Mogadishu, and Abudwak to understand and support PASOS programs.
  • Lead on the translation of material from English to Somali and vice versa
  • Support in developing and maintaining media relations at the field and HQ level.
  • Creates field communications and outreach plans in coordination with key field staff.
  • Draft and otherwise support the production of high-quality communications products such as situation reports, photos, fact sheets, social media content, video and audio, and blogs for internal and external use.
  • Develop and deliver a clear and effective system for internal communications.
  • Leads in the drafting of case studies chronicling PASOS’ s successes and lessons learned.
  • Supports in creating and implementing an integrated and innovative communications strategy that supports PASOS’s evolving goals.
  • Ensure communications products are signed off according to the PASOS sign-off procedures.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Manage PASOS’s particular social media accounts.

Branding and Marketing

  • Develop and coordinate the implementation of PASOS’s branding and marketing policy.
  • Advise internal stakeholders, including staff, on promoting and enforcing brand guidelines, and ensure and advance all productions are aligned and consistent with PASOS branding policy.
  • Determine target audiences, profiles, and interests by conducting brand awareness and perception studies to gather insights from program intervention areas.
  • Plan and set up campaigns in diverse channels using contemporary channels, i.e., social media ads and other traditional media, including TVs and radios.
  • Enforce the execution of brand and marketing products by ensuring that all productions are made in PASOS and donor branding standards.
  • In collaboration with other teams, manage the production of communications products including fact sheets, brochures, reports, in print and digital formats, etc.
  • Coordinate and support private printing agencies and act as the main focal point.

Required skills and qualifications.

  • Degree in Journalism, communications, or related degree
  • Prior experience working in communications on humanitarian or development issues, with experience in successfully supporting the development and implementation of communication and campaign strategies.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English and Somali.
  • Experience with professional DSLR cameras, lenses, and lighting, including.
  • Ability to use different video and photo editing software.
  • Experience of collecting and producing communication products, such as case studies and photo stories.
  • Cultural awareness and ability to build relationships quickly with a wide variety of people.
  • Excellent planning, management, and coordination skills, with the ability to organize a substantial workload comprised of complex, diverse tasks and responsibilities.
  • Attention to detail.
