Farhan Bashir Hassan, Dr. Farhan Bashir Hassan is an experienced Somali public health and pharmaceutical professional with extensive expertise in health systems strengthening, essential medicines management,  humanitarian coordination, public health programming, and community health promotion. He possesses over a decade of progressive experience working with international organizations, academic institutions, and community-based health initiatives across Somalia and the United States. Farhan previously served with the World Health Organization as Essential Medicines Coordinator, where he played a leading role in strengthening Somalia’s pharmaceutical supply systems, supporting national health policy development, coordinating emergency health responses, and contributing to major health sector reforms during complex humanitarian emergencies, including the 2011 Somalia famine response. He also supported the development of Somalia’s National Medicines Policy, health sector strategic planning, and initiatives toward establishing a National Drug Regulatory Authority. In addition to his international humanitarian experience, Farhan has contributed significantly to community health advancement in the United States through his work with the New American Consortium for Wellness & Empowerment and North Dakota State University, where he focused on diabetes prevention, health disparities reduction, public health research, and community mobilization among ethnically diverse populations. His research contributions included metabolic syndrome and diabetes prevention studies aimed at improving public health outcomes. Farhan holds a Master’s Degree in Public Health (MPH) from North Dakota State University and a Doctor of Pharmacy degree (Pharm-D) from University of Karachi. He has also completed several international professional trainings in health systems management, monitoring and evaluation, health commodity management, and health technology management through global institutions including the World Health Organization and Japan International Cooperation Agency. Recognized for his leadership, analytical capacity, and commitment to public service, Farhan brings strong expertise in policy development, health coordination, humanitarian response, stakeholder engagement, and evidence-based public health programming. His professional mission focuses on strengthening healthcare systems, improving equitable access to essential health services, and advancing sustainable health solutions for vulnerable communities.
